How to recognise a good pergola fitter in the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg: questions to ask, warning signs and what a serious installation quote must contain.

The word “fitter” hides most of what a pergola project involves. A good fitter can be recognised by three things: they measure on site before pricing, they put in writing what is included and what is excluded, and they stay reachable after installation. In the Grand Duchy as in Arlon, the structure comes from a manufacturer (Pratic, Dirello), but it is the installation company that makes it level, watertight and durable. This guide sets out the criteria for choosing, the questions to ask, the warning signs and what an installation quote must contain.
Why the manufacturer alone is not enough
The manufacturer guarantees the design of the pergola, the powder coating of the profiles and the motorisation. It does not come to your home. Anchoring into the slab, levelling, sealing the junction with the façade, draining the roof water, the electrical connection and the adjustment of the louvres and sensors all fall to the fitter. A poorly installed bioclimatic pergola shows quickly: louvres that do not close fully, water standing in the gutter, vibration in the wind, a rain sensor that does not respond. The product is not to blame; the installation is.
The signs of a good fitter
- They visit before pricing: measurements, orientation, condition of the slab, access, boundaries
- They show completed projects in Luxembourg or just across the Belgian border that you can locate
- They say who installs: their own teams, or a named subcontractor trained by the brand
- They have a physical address and a single point of contact through to handover
- They write down options, exclusions and lead times rather than promising them verbally
- They handle after-sales themselves: adjustments, parts, motorisation, years after installation
Questions to ask before signing
- Who manufactures the structure, and who installs it? Two separate companies is a common arrangement, but it must be stated
- Have you installed this exact model before? A louvred pergola and a retractable fabric pergola are not adjusted the same way
- What does the price include: foundations, slab repairs, rainwater drainage, power supply, finishes?
- Who does what if the slab needs work or an electrician has to be called in?
- What is the realistic lead time between quote approval and installation, manufacturing included?
- What warranties cover the structure, the powder coating and the motorisation, and who carries them: the manufacturer or the installer?
- Do you also work in Arlon, Aubange or Messancy if the project is in Belgium?

What a serious installation quote must contain
The items to find in black and white
- Precise identification of the model: brand, range, dimensions, RAL colour, roof type
- Supply and installation on separate lines
- Anchors, slab repairs or foundations, stating who carries them out
- Roof water drainage: gutters, downpipes, any connection to the drains
- Electrical work: power supply, connection of the motorisation, lighting, and who is responsible for it
- Options priced separately: blinds, LEDs, rain and wind sensors, heating
- Written exclusions, indicative manufacturing and installation lead times
- Staged payment terms, warranties, after-sales contact details, validity period of the quote
